Hawaii + Film

I have a confession to make. I never shot a professional roll of film… until last month. Back in the day I had those point and shoot disposable film cameras like everyone else. You’d take your shots then drop the film off at Costco or Walgreens. In a couple days everything was ready. If you were really desperate, you could drop your film off at the 1 hour shop. Growing up though, I never moved beyond that realm of photography. Fast forward 10 years and I learned how to really take photos in the digital age.

This past month though I wanted to revisit photography’s roots in film, so I decided to take my dad’s old film camera with me on our one year anniversary trip to Hawaii. Candy and I had so much fun, and it was kind of exciting thinking about what pictures could be on each exposure of film that I shot. Several times I looked on the back of the camera only to see a big black piece of plastic screaming, “No chimping here!” I finally got my film processed and scanned so I can share them with you on the blog. There’s a certain quality to the images that I really appreciate. All images were shot a Velvia 50 slide film.
